Hi Yulegoat! You are lovely and amazing and you volunteered to write in one of my tiny tiny fandoms! This makes you a truly beautiful person. Yuletide is magic and so are you. :D

So on to the letter:

KINKS/LIKES
--Strong characterization/characters being written IC
--Hurt/comfort
--Angst
--Humor
--Porn as plot (sex that either advances plot or helps to define characters)
--Plot without porn
--Meticulous attention to grammar/beta'ed fic

SQUICKS/DISLIKES
--Non-con/dub-con (though wrt statutory, I have no problem with kids above 14 or so who are roughly the same age having consensual, healthy sexual relationships)
--Incest
--OOC characterization
--Porn without plot
--Very graphic violence (I’m more OK with violence than most people, I just don’t want like gouts of blood spraying everywhere or brains smeared on walls or whatever described in great visual detail)
--Characters being constantly referred to by their hair color (“The blonde looked at the brunette...”) Please, please, just use their names, even if it seems a little repetitive, or come up with some other way of identifying them. /pet peeve

As for the suggested questions elyn outlined in the "Optional Details" post on yt_admin:

-I don't mind holiday stories in general and I think if you wanted to do one the theme could work well for Songcatcher and Desperate Housewives, depending on your take on it, but I don't think it'd work in Till We Have Faces, for what are probably fairly obvious reasons.
-I'm not a big crossover person and I don't think any of my fandoms are particularly well-suited to that. I like AUs that branch off in a new direction from a turning point in the source material, but not ones that put the characters in completely different setting ("now the characters from Till We Have Faces are doctors living in modern-day Australia!") And if "gender-bending" means genderswap, while I think it's kind of an interesting thing it doesn't work for me for these fandoms/characters.
-Elyn asked "Do they want dark/fluff/relationship/action adventure?" Yes! :)
-About pairings: I'm a femslash girl by default, but I definitely enjoy both het and m/m too. The only please-don't that I have with these requests is if you write Till We Have Faces, please don't put Orual in a relationship. (Well, and please don't rewrite the Songcatcher source material to de-lesbianify Elna and Harriet either, I guess.)

On to specific fandoms!

SONGCATCHER, Elna Penleric and Harriet Tolliver
So I am just the most excited little bunny in the world that someone is offering Songcatcher! I have been wanting fanfic for this movie for ten years, literally. If you are the person who offered this, bless your wonderful heart. If you are not, that’s still great because I love my other fandom requests very much as well. Well, anyway, so, Songcatcher. Elna and Harriet are one of my favorite pairings ever. I have a bit of a Victorian kink and I also just think they’re the cutest in the world. I love their social progressivism in starting a school in the poorest of Appalachia and in Harriet's writing articles about child labor laws (SO NERDY AND AWESOME, and where is she publishing them? I <3 that detail) and they’re just lovely. One fic I’ve always wanted to read (and have considered writing, but I assumed no one would ever see it/read it) would be about how they met/got together; another would be about what happens to Harriet after the movie ends and whether (spoiler) they’ll ever meet again. (There’s an interpretation of the end of the movie which could answer both of these questions and I'm curious as to whether you interpreted it that way or not.) There's also the question of when and how they decided to start the school (which doesn't have to be romantic, if you want to write gen.) I’d really love any fic about them though, and although I’m generally a bit of a drama-focused reader and therefore would get way hooked on something angsty, I’d also love pure fluff about these two. Something about their lives teaching together, or, well, anything! If gen's your bag, or femslash isn't, that's totally fine as long as the sweetness of the way they relate to each other/the bond they share (not necessarily sexual) is still there. If it’s Elna & Harriet I’ll love it, I swear.

TILL WE HAVE FACES (C.S. LEWIS), Orual and Psyche
Screw CSL’s hard take on her, I love Orual to death. Still I’m very conscious of her screwed-up love for Psyche. In the book, as often happens with CSL, human failings are cured by direct contact with God. One thing I’d like would be to see this explored in a different way, a way in which Orual comes to terms with her selfishness on her own, without the face-to-face contact with Cupid (subtly called “Lord” at the end of the book, natch) and various other gods, dead people with All the Answers, etc. So an AU fic where Psyche really did go weeping off into slavery and then Orual managed to buy her back, and where their relationship went from there, is an idea that occurred to me, but please only take that as a prompt if it’s something you want to write! I usually don’t give prompts quite that specific in Dear Author letters and I’d feel like a heel if you felt you had to take it. I find all the contrasts in Orual’s character really interesting, how wise and just and kind she is as a ruler versus this burning messed-up love (still love, though) at her core. If you wanted to write more about her queenship, as we really don’t see much of it in the book because she barely considers it worth mentioning, that would be interesting. Or any revealing interaction between her and Psyche that moves Orual a little further along to self-understanding. (And, on a more mundane note, what exactly is wrong with her face? How ugly does she have to be for it to be the first thing everyone notices about her, and remarked upon so much? Is it, like, some kind of borderline deformity, or just ordinary but super severe ugliness -- or has Orual Orual distorted it by being extremely conscious of it and of the remarks made about it?) Then again it would be cool to see things from Psyche’s perspective, too -- I love the image of Orual that she has near the end when she’s carrying the water of death, and how different it is from how Orual sees herself. Or you can create any kind of AU I haven’t mentioned, as long as it isn't the aforementioned Australian-doctors kind of thing. Again, as with Songcatcher, if the fic is about these two characters, I will love it, promise.

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, Jennifer, Bree, Renee
Jennifer, if the name doesn’t ring a bell, is the character from very end of the series finale who has a mystery box and a Dark Secret. Since Desperate Housewives is over (woe) it could be neat to see an exploration, in the manner of the show, of what Jennifer’s Dark Secret is -- like she was the Mystery Neighbor of season 9. I put Renee and Bree in there because a.) they’re my favorite Wisteria Lane residents ATM, and b.) the Mystery Neighbor’s plot always intertwines with the other residents to some degree. My other thing is I love femslash, and particularly about this show because there are so many great female characters. Bree/Renee is a pairing that hits my squee button, and so is Bree/Katherine (I didn't request Katherine because I didn't see how she'd fit into this prompt, not living on the Lane anymore, but if you volunteered to write her and you see some way to fit her in that catches your fancy, feel free, because I adore her). You can pair them up in the background of the Jennifer story if you want -- if not, that’s fine too. I’d just love one of the dark intense twisty-turny stories that Desperate Housewives was built on. However, if dark-twisty-turny really isn't your thing, I'd also be cool with something more lighthearted about Bree and/or Renee and/or Katherine (only if you volunteered to write her though); Jennifer doesn't absolutely have to be a part of it, or she can play some role that isn't the center of Gothic melodrama. Whatever you're comfortable with is great. :)

That’s all I can think of. Do what you will with it -- as close to or as far from my prompts as you want; if you write something totally different from what I’ve suggested because you just can’t resist the plotbunny, I’m sure I’ll love that too because enthusiasm makes for the best fics by far. Just please nothing involving my dislikes/squicks.

Yay Yuletide! Yay you! <3 <3 <3
